The climb, oh the climb 05/25/2019 Monday morning we went to the Great Wall of China. The wall was built as fortification against the Mongolians who, as our guide put it, were big and strong where as the Chinese were tiny and less formidable. Soldiers built the wall and it is, in essence, one very big cemetery. Those building the wall were buried where they died. The wall was originally about 21,000 km long but there is only 1% of the wall still remaining. People have removed the stones from the wall to build their houses

Data, time and technical difficulties 05/20/2019 Apologies to all. This trip has not gone as planned for updates. The internet here is truly horrible (government regulated with major constrictions), my data plan is not what is needed for uploading all of my pictures, my website is suffering from an internal error and won't update and I just don't have the time to be able to get the posts up! I have some wonderful pictures to share and I will share them but it seems that I am going to have to do that once I get back in Canada. We are having

One switch to rule them all 05/17/2019 Yes, it's the Waster Switch. I HAVE THE POWER!!!!! Um, back to your regularly scheduled programming. We had a jam packed couple of days since the last blog. Three more prison escape games in which we had to buy our way out of two (pearls and tea). One was a museum escape (teapots) in which there was no museum so we caught on to that one pretty quickly. We travelled from Wuxi to Hangzhou (3 hour bus ride) where we toured the beautiful West Lake region, had some truly horrible food (the

We cannot get out 05/16/2019 We have been to the UNESCO Net Garden in Suzhou. The Garden is only one of 100 remaining private gardens in Suzhou. In the 1970’s, there were over 200 gardens destroyed as the thought at that time was to rewrite history and forget about the past. The Chinese in Suzhou are working very hard now to preserve and celebrate their history. The private garden has sections that have been copied and miniatures of the garden are in New York and California. There were rocks used to build the garden
